The Wings of Freedom Restoration Team is responsible for the restoration and maintenance of historic aircraft in our collection.
Composed of an all-volunteer staff of veterans, aviation professionals, and enthusiasts, our restoration team is keenly aware of the many challenges faced with the upkeep of aircraft that are displayed outside in the elements.
Join our Restoration Crew
Restoration Team Leaders have professional backgrounds in management along with general knowledge and experience working with a variety of military aircraft. Additionally, they have specific skills in aircraft maintenance and maintaining instrumentation. They also have familiarity with various aspects of aircraft construction, including metal work, wood working, high-end paint application, and using Plexiglas and fiberglass.
The Restoration Team regularly meets from 9:00 am to Noon on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at our Museum, with additional days added for special projects.
The goal of each restoration project is to restore and preserve aircraft for static display that reflects the history and design of the aircraft. Because most of our aircraft are displayed outside, special care is taken to ensure their integrity with protection from the elements.
We encourage skilled and unskilled volunteers to work in our Restoration Area. Students must be 18 or older and must also complete a Criminal Background Check and Child Abuse History Clearance.
